Where I am from

I am from black rice and green beans
from tear filled eyes to unrealistic dreams
I am from a place of laughter, a place of pain
a place where an orphan watched his mom die and was never the same
I am from a land of sorrows and useless pities
where empty words are expected to rebuild cities

I am from large chunks of rubble that was once a home
that is still the only roof over the heads of some
I am from swollen bellies and skinny arms
of people who once owned large filled farms
I am from thousands of lifeless human carcasses scattered all over the thick mud
Putrid foul odors emerging from their sour smelling blood

Where am I from ? Are you still unaware?
Or are are you like the others and no less you could care
Where am I from ? Is the location still unknown
In a small house in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti is where I call home
Where am I from ? Still blind as to what this means ?
I am from black rice and delicious green beans.
